I cannot agree with you more. I visited China this past April and was impressed at the transformation of China from a backward to a modern country. My perception of China was off the table. Seeing is believing.

Thanks for sharing your views and impressions of China. I consider you one of the foremost experts on China. More people should take heart to your articles to what impact China will make on the rest of the world.

The domestic market in China is wide open. Not only that.

Hawaii and the rest of the US would benefit if we prepare now for an influx of Chinese tourists (Chinese Yuppies or "Chuppies") to the US. That should also help mitigate the enormous trade imbalance occurring between the two countries.

What are the barriers? Could you write an article on the Chinese tourist trade to the US? It is very small now compared to the number of Japanese tourists that visit US, especially to Hawaii. Hawaii is in the doldrums now because our tourist market has tanked, especially from California. The State is planning to lay off workers and put remaining workers on a three day furlough per month. I think one of the solutions for Hawaii and California is to bring in the Chinese tourists. This would be a brand new source of revenue and would help stimulate the economy.
